I sent a copy of my last album to a musician who I hold in very high regard with the inscription on the bubble mailer "you can flatter your heroes but they're still your firing squad". The intent was always for that phrase to end up on this album, and this was about how it was intended. You can give all the praise in the world to someone, but if you idolize someone, they can crush you with a single phrase.
lyrics
A desperate murmur
An unconventional thought
Lack of communication
The last secret we bought
Tightbeams aligned
Clear line of sight
No communication
No communication
And you can flatter your heroes
But at the end of the day
Your flattered heroes
Are your firing squad
At least you know
That's how we fail
And you can flatter your heroes
But at the end of the day
Your flattered heroes
Are your firing squad
At least you know
That's how we fail
At least you know
That's how we fail
At least you know
That's how we fail...
